| Venice is a small beach community located west of downtown Los Angeles between Santa Monica and Marina del Rey. It is conveniently located ... only 15 minutes to Los Angeles International Airport, 20 minutes to Beverly Hills and 30 minutes to the downtown financial district.
The climate is mild year around ... summer days rarely are much above 80 degrees, winter days are in the 50's and 60's. Evenings are always cool and there is usually a pleasant onshore breeze. The average annual rainfall is only 12," most of which occurs in the winter.
Because of the great climate, most recreational activities are outdoor-oriented ... biking and roller blading on the bike path which goes from north of Santa Monica to Redondo Beach ... sailing, kayaking, and deep sea fishing out of the Marina del Rey harbor (the largest small craft harbor in the world) ... surfing and volleyball along the beach.
Venice is a creative gathering spot ... many fine artists and craftsmen have studios in Venice ... advertising, entertainment and high tech businesses are opening offices and studios here. Much of the social scene of Venice centers around the art/creative community with many art shows/openings, little theater and night spots featuring local talent.
Restaurants tend to be somewhat trendy, small, owner-operated and often almost hidden. Most are casual with little fanfare and attract regular local clientele. Patio dining is very popular.
Venice's many small vintage clothing, artist's galleries, and custom furniture and antique shops are a haunt for designers and trendy entertainment types. Nearby, Santa Monica and Marina del Rey offer a full range of shopping from malls to designer boutiques. |
